Putting our Armour on!!!

Romans 13:12
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.

Interesting how Paul describes our need to change here which could also be viewed as Repentance. As in many places repentance is described as casting of our sin, putting aside our sinful deeds and many attemp this with some level of success. Others however struggle with their sinful natures over and over again and may give up? (Have been there myself!!!)

Have you tried to change but felt you couldn’t?

Paul reveals something in his letter to the Romans here about what repentance or change involves. He says that along with putting aside the deeds of darkness we must put on the armour of light and a few verse later he tells us again to “put our clothing on” by telling us to “Clothe ourselves with Christ“.

The Christian life is not merely abstinence of sin, it is not dull and boring as we attempt to do away with all pleasure. If we feel bored as Christians then we may be missing out. Look at the lives of the men in the bible, Paul being a great example. Lived a dynamic, exciting life with many highs and lows.

To put on the armour of light and to clothe ourselves with Christ implies that we live a positive, active Christian life. We are active participants for the one who died for us not merely bystanders who don’t know how to answer the world around us when we’re accused of not having any fun.

Do we go on the offensive for God, do we step out with faith, how would those around us define our christian lives, would they see anything appealing about our lives?

Lets put on our armour as described in Ephesians 6 (we are in a battle) and determine to live as God intended and as we see the men of faith described in Hebrews 11.

Small tip, start with something small. Resolve to speak to that family member, neighbour etc. Pray as Paul did for God to open doors so that we can live faithfully to the one who gave his all for us.

Put on the full armour of God

In Christ

Simon
